Research: Audience Views and Opinions

I have to consider the response, views and opinions which audiences may feel when watching my documentary. As my preferred response (theorised by Stuart Hall) I would like audiences to enjoy the documentary, learn something about wedding dress trends and to be generally entertained providing some escapism; a reference to Blumler and Katz's theory of uses and gratification.

Feminist views may reject my documentary and other relevant shows such as Say Yes to the Dress as it feeds into the stereotype that women are obsessed with looks, appearance and are materialistic, having to have the most expensive wedding dresses. Often in shows, women state that 'my fiancĂ© wants me to wear something like _____' suggesting women need to wear the glamorous dresses to impress a man.

Those who may be more Marxist opinionated may believe factors such as wedding dress is a ploy by the capitalist society into encouraging consumerism. The social construction that women need to pay £1000s for a dress, venue, bridesmaids, transport, hair, makeup is set by society and makes women feel inferior if they do have all these aspects for their wedding - perhaps forgetting the actual event of the day, becoming married to another person.

I have thought about my different audiences and need to consider a selection of mixed opinions about my media product.
